How do I access my courses?2025-11-17T02:14:18+00:00

After checkout you should have received both a confirmation email for your purchase and a registration email with a link to create a password and access your course. Please verify the following and let us know if you still have trouble:

  1. Check that the course registration email did not end up in your email client’s spam folder.
  2. If the email is not in your spam folder, we’ll need to check if your email address was misspelled during checkout. In this case you most likely wouldn’t have received the confirmation email or the registration email. Please contact us and we’ll check to make sure that you’re registered under the correct email.

Can I make up a class at a later date?2025-11-17T02:20:32+00:00

For safety and security reasons, only enrolled learners for a particular course are allowed in that course. It is sometimes possible to attend another class of the same course if taught by the same teacher during the same term. This is however at the discretion of both Usign and the teacher.

Why the strict refund policy?2025-11-17T19:57:41+00:00

Decisions to run a course are made based upon paid learner enrolment numbers. If someone were to cancel their enrolment after the start of the course, Usign still has all the costs associated with the course e.g. paying the tutor’s wages, contribution towards electricity and other overheads.

It’s the same as any other language, just more visual. To ensure you succeed, you should regular attend all the classes in a term and complete the homework that is assigned each week. Or involved with Deaf Community to keep up with practice.

Is Sign Language the same worldwide?  2025-11-17T02:24:50+00:00

No. It’s the same as spoken languages, there are many throughout the world. While some countries may have similar signs, no two are exactly the same. For example, NZ Sign Language (NZSL) and Australian Sign Language (Auslan) are both based on British Sign Language (BSL) but there are differences.

How many people are in a community class?  2025-11-17T02:32:25+00:00

It depends on the level. For Level 1a, the minimum number of students is 10-12.

Certificates and prerequisites  2025-11-17T02:32:56+00:00

To enter Level 1b you must have completed Level 1a. If you have not completed the previous level with me, I will need to assess your NZSL skills to ensure you can cope with the next level.  If you attended previous levels with another teacher, I will need to see proof of your attendance.  This is could be a certificate or letter from your previous teacher. The other option would be a one-to-one assessment for me to see your NZSL skills.
