NZSL Intermediate Level 2
Our Intermediate Level 2 Certificate Program designed for learners who have completed the Beginner level and are ready to deepen their understanding and skills in the subject area.
Progression Requirements: Complete each level in order.
Level 2 → Level 2B → Level 2C → Level 2D. (After Level 2D, you may enroll in Advanced courses.)

Outcomes:
Confident conversational skills across common situations; speed, clarity, and comprehension.
Prerequisite:
Completed Level 1 (USIGN or verified equivalent).
Format:
6–7 weekly classes.
Course Completion Certification:
Intermediate 2 – Silver
Intermediate Level 2 Certificate
E-certificates are awarded upon completion of each level, provided you attend at least 80% of the sessions.

These are non-credit courses aimed at personal and professional development. All courses are accessible to learners of all backgrounds.
Course Structure:
NZSL Level 2A – Unit 10-11
Builds on knowledge from Beginner Level 1D. Focuses on advanced concepts and practical applications.
Expands vocabulary and complex sentence structures; learners discuss personal experiences with time markers and negation.
Unit 10 (All About Me)
- Give, ask and summarise personal information about self and others.
- Narrate about life events including their language learning journey.
- Describe and identify people in order to share information about them.
- Tell about extended family/whānau and basic family history.
Unit 11 (Home Life)
- Describe activities, food and environment-related topics in the home
- Make and respond to requests and complaints related to home life
- Discuss responsibilities and schedules for domestic chores and errands
- Recount personal experiences about mishaps and problems in the home.
NZSL Level 2B – Unit 12-13
Expands on Level 2 with more complex topics.
Focuses on storytelling and conversational skills, enhancing fluency and cultural understanding in NZSL.
Improves comprehension and expressive skills through role-playing and discussions on community and social issues.
Unit 12 (My Workplace)
- Compare various jobs and work conditions
- Describe personal qualities and skills required for work roles
- Explain simple instructions for common work-related tasks
- Demonstrate appropriate ways to interact with Deaf people in workplaces
Unit 13 (Leisure Time)
- Recount personal experiences about recreation, sports, hobbies and interests
- Discuss, agree, announce and explain information about leisure
- Give simple instructions or rules for an activity or game
- Explain goals for future activities/skills: wish list and reasons.
NZSL Level 2C – Unit 14-15
Further develops skills learned in Level 2B.
Improves comprehension and expressive skills through role-playing and discussions on community and social issues.
Unit 14 (All About Services)
- Describe needs for everyday service (e.g. Repair car, electrician, vet)
- Discuss services and utilities provided (e.g. Prices, experiences, quality)
- Express and respond to concerns and advice about services
- Make suggestions and recommend services.
Unit 15 (Health & Wellbeing)
- Explain common illnesses and treatments
- Discuss and give opinions about common health and wellbeing issues
- Recount simple personal experiences about health and wellbeing.
NZSL Level 2D – Unit 16-17
Final stage before progressing to Advanced courses.
Develops advanced conversational abilities and critical thinking, with an emphasis on negotiation and persuasion in diverse settings.
Unit 16 (Our Country)
- Report and discuss key demographic facts about New Zealand
- Explain and contrast an everyday ritual/event in your culture
- Describe and recount experiences about NZ outdoor activities (e.g. Camping, boating).
Unit 17 (Travel & Destinations)
- Describe and contrast information about NZ and overseas travel destinations (e.g. Geographical environment, attractions, activities, costs)
- Narrate personal experiences with travel-related incidents (e.g. Delays, natural disasters, illnesses or mishaps)
- Negotiate tasks for planning a trip (e.g. Dates, itinerary, booking travel and accommodation, packing).
